What People Are Saying About the IBMRThe International Bulletin of Missionary Research is one of the best sources for mission study. The scholarly articles and book reviews by experts in the field provide mature insights that contribute a wonderfully rich perspective on world mission today. It is not the oldest journal in the field of mission studies, nor is it the bulkiest; but if there is one journal, in that field, in any language, that can properly be called indispensable, it is the International Bulletin of Missionary Research [because of its] breadth of vision in the coverage, the range of disciplines, the interaction of the scholarly and the practical; its ecumenical spirit; its sensitivity to new frontiers of study and new methods of research; and its readability. I cannot afford to be without it; neither, I believe, can any person, or any library, seriously concerned with the Christian faith as a world-wide phenomenon, or anyone engaged at any level in mission studies, or anyone involved in the issues of Gospel and culture. This invaluable publication is thoroughly ecumenical and scholarly, as well as being readily accessible to the nonspecialist. Christianity is irrepressibly missionary in character; the truth we have been given we cannot help but share. The IBMR is an excellent resource for understanding the missionary mandate, both in historical perspective and at work today. I don’t think I exaggerate if I tell you that every issue is a masterpiece of balance. You have the biblical, the historical, the theological, and the practical elements combined in a creative and dynamic way. For updating my information about trends, statistics, new books, and ongoing research on the Christian mission, there is always something in the pages of the International Bulletin of Missionary Research. From both the pedagogical and the journalistic perspectives, Jonathan Bonk and his team offer us a top professional job every quarter. While teaching in Africa I found the IBMR indispensable for my personal development and growth as a missionary and missiologist. Over my years on faculty at Wheaton College and as editor of Evangelical Missions Quarterly I have found it to be an invaluable component of my own reading and thinking. I have found the IBMR consistently helpful and engaging; I think you will also. I highly recommend that you subscribe—if not for yourself, at least for your church or agency. You will not regret this investment. It is scholarly research that is relevant, readable, and reliable. It draws from all branches of the Christian church, from Orthodox to Pentecostal, but at the same time is free from being driven by any particular ideological agenda. Subscribing to the International Bulletin of Missionary Research is a good value, for it will challenge, stimulate, and inspire your understanding and commitment to God’s mission in the world. Over the years, I have found that the International Bulletin of Missionary Research has been a gold mine of first-rate articles, which draw from many Christian traditions and academic fields. One of the great strengths of the IBMR is that it reflects the community of mission out of which it grows—both the constantly changing community at OMSC and the wider community of those committed to serious study and reflection on contemporary mission themes. I have plenty of opportunity to read other research papers in this field but the IBMR has two specific attractions for me. Firstly, it is, on the whole, research with a passion for the in-breaking of the Kingdom of God—“mission research with a mission”—and, secondly, it is concise! I am happy to commend the IBMR. When the IBMR arrives, I always find information I can find nowhere else and I devour it quickly. It is an absolute must-read journal for everyone interested in world Christianity. I have always found the IBMR a stimulating read, usually finding it a balance of information about people or periods I had previously been unaware of, or new angles on familiar figures and issues. It constitutes an ongoing missiological education. The IBMR is a splendid periodical of tremendous value to the academy as well as the church. Essential for documentation and interpretation of mission. IBMR is always very good, informative, up-to-date reading. Thanks!
