The
IBMR is a professional academic journal devoted to a sympathetic
yet objective analysis and critique of the Christian world mission. The
journal wishes to be forthright about the failures and limitations of
Christian mission, while at the same time advancing an appreciation of
the contributions of Christian mission to the world and its peoples.
Articles that do not relate significantly to mission—regardless of how
well written—will not be accepted. Similarly, articles that are not
presented with academic objectivity, rigor, and care will not be
accepted. This means that in addition to the quality of the text itself,
an article should include appropriately supportive endnotes. In some
cases, a bibliography may also be an appropriate component. Articles of
a general, popular, and/or exhortatory character are not accepted. Themes
range from mission history to analysis of current events and trends, and
from mission theory and practice to mission theology. Book
Reviews, a vital feature of the IBMR, are usually
assigned by the editors. Unsolicited book reviews are rarely accepted.
Guidelines for reviews can be furnished upon request. Preparing
and submitting the manuscript Length.
Articles should be between 3,000 to 4,000 words in length, including
Notes and Bibliography. Longer articles appearing in the IBMR have
usually been assigned by the editor. Format.
Manuscripts (including endnotes) should be single-spaced, using a
12-point common font, such as Times New Roman. Abstract.
Authors are asked to provide a short abstract of their article, not
more than 100 words in length. Submission.
Manuscripts should be submitted in digital form, if possible.
Digital versions may be submitted either as an e-mail attachment
(preferred) or on a diskette. Author
identification. Please
include with your article a brief (1 or 2 sentences) biographical note
indicating your present position (with full name and location of
school or agency), missionary experience, if any (country, assignment
and years), and nationality (if non-USA). Please do not expect the
editors to add your biographical note, even if you are famous or have
written for the Bulletin previously. Unsolicited
articles will not be returned unless
accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Authors of
unsolicited articles should allow three to four weeks for a response
from the editors. Remuneration.
No remuneration is given for articles published in the IBMR,
but authors will receive 25 complimentary copies of the issue in which
their article appears. Address
